Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Technical Illustrator/Writer. The Technical Illustrator/Writer will work closely with the Publications Manager and other publications professionals in the development and revision of user manuals and related documents. The position is not remote and will be required to report daily to the Corporate Headquarters in Chesterton, Indiana.
Urschel employee-owners design and manufacture industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries around the world from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment on a daily basis. This position will prepare technical instructions and illustrations, parts lists utilizing engineering models, drawings, physical parts, previously prepared manuals, and proprietary BOM and other software programs. Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, manufactured parts, and interview subject matter experts to create illustrations and text for safety, installation, operation, and service information in the technical manuals. Select and edit photographs to accompany text in the manuals. Assist with technical writing and illustration.
Qualified applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in technical illustration, graphic design, technical writing, English, or a technical field with demonstrated illustration and/or writing ability. Experience in a mechanically based work environment is a plus. Experience with photography, proficiency in image editing software and web-based documents. Proficiency in software including Solidworks Composer, Arbortext IsoDraw, Adobe In-Design, Adobe Photoshop, and familiarity with CAD software (Solidworks). Candidates must be detail oriented, highly self-motivated and possess excellent communication skills, organizational talents, with a strong mechanical aptitude.
